SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Any BBB CEO or current staff member, with CEO’s approval, may at any time submit a request for a scholarship for training or to attend a meeting provided it is a BBB event or sanctioned by BBB. Requests are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which rules on the request. The scholarship application will specify the amount available. Scholarship disbursements in any calendar year cannot exceed the amount authorized by annual vote of the 25 Year club members.

  • Scholarships may be used for the following:
  • Attend a training;
  • Sponsor a training (web or in-person);
  • Request on-site training/mentoring; or
  • Attend a BBB meeting, the primary purpose of which is training or educational in nature.

In reviewing requests for scholarships, the committee shall consider:

  • Whether a significant training need exists. Significant training need includes, but is not limited to, ability to meet BBB Performance and Accountability Standards as well as education about new technologies and best practices
  • Whether the activity will directly or indirectly benefit the BBB.
    • Making a BBB operationally stronger can be an example of indirect benefit to all in the BBB system.
    • The specific anticipated benefits and outcomes to be generated by the activity;
      Whether financial support will improve the activity’s likelihood of providing desired benefits and outcomes (e.g., that free registration will generate more attendees at a training).
  • As appropriate, financial/budgetary need.
    • Requests that financially benefit only one BBB will be reviewed more critically on the issue of financial need.
    • Would the applicant be able to attend without benefit of scholarship?
      Scholarship requests should address these considerations, and should also note the likely consequences if the scholarship is not granted. A scholarship will not be funded unless the committee determines there is a true need and value to providing such scholarship. It is
      therefore imperative that the scholarship request fully address the points listed above.

A BBB receiving a training scholarship will be asked to provide a report at the conclusion of the training concerning the value and benefits of the funded activity. This report may be in the form of an email to the Scholarship Chair or the President of the 25 Year Club, but must be received within 30 days of the end of the training event. Outcomes generated by scholarship funds will be considered when reviewing future scholarship requests.
