I would like to first express my sincere appreciation for being selected as the recipient of an OLTC scholarship. The investment being made at this time is much appreciated because BBB North Alabama has experienced many challenges including some that have been financially taxing. I am thankful for the opportunity to attend, learn from other BBB professionals, exchange ideas, and bring valuable information back to my BBB.
Attending OLTC this past month provided me with valuable insight into leadership, operational efficiency, employee development, technology, customer service, and the continued advancement of BBB operations. Additionally, the experience challenged me to think intentionally about how I want to lead in my new role. I left with multiple ideas that I can implement immediately, as well as a broader understanding that effective leadership requires a balance of accountability, communication, innovation, and genuine investment in people.
One of my most important takeaways was the need to create clear and consistent
communication with my team. I have already implemented the Three W’ of Wins, Working On, and Watch Outs as part of a required weekly update from the operations team. This gives me a better understanding of accomplishments, priorities, potential obstacles, and where my support or the support of other team members may be needed.
Another piece of curtail information was the use of technology more strategically. Platforms for CRM, email management, documentation, surveys, communications, automation, and AI may help streamline repetitive work and provide better visibility into productivity. Technology should support not completely take away human interaction.
Finally, OLTC reminded me that becoming a strong leader requires more than just management of others and tasks but managing myself as well. It is a priority for me to set daily goals, take the intentional one minute pauses throughout the day, and recognize that my overall health can and will affect my personal performance.
Now, my goal is to take more of the things I’ve taken pages and pages of notes about and put them into practice. I want to continue to be part of something that helps others to grow and succeed as well as continue to positively impact both businesses and the local community.
